Very old, and has been repeated many, many times. BTW . . . Greenland is the largest island in the world. Australia is a continent. If you consider Australia an island then you would have to count every continent as an island since they are all surrounded by water.

Smh! Some of these comments ... I don't think they think things ALL the way through but hey none of us do Sometimes. I mean Australia wasn't discovered and instantly labeled a continent & It was yet to be discovered but IT was there.. I like to play devil's advocate from time to time

Lily Tillott, Australasia and Oceania are regions in the South Pacific, not continents.. The continents are Australia and Zealandia - check in Google.

Alejo Planchart, New Zealand is part of a continent known as Zealandia - not attached to Australia. Oceania is a region in the South Pacific, not a continent.

The answer to the 1st question has to be Greenland as Australia is a continent, not an island!

At some point in land mass size a landmass is no longer an Island but a continent. If continents can be Iislands then the largest island is Eurasia..

Chuck Gross, no because by the size of landmass Australia is bigger. Greenland is the biggest Island that isn’t a continent but it is not the biggest island.
